Oh so close…Teams #7-10

7. LSU: The truth is the Tigers might be ranked higher than this, but I think that blight against Tennessee will keep the committee from pushing LSU too far ahead of the other one-loss squads. I mean, if we are being honest, Tennessee beat LSU in Baton Rouge worse than Notre Dame beat Clemson. That’s not going to be forgotten.

8. USC: I heard someone make the point last week that if you simply compared USC’s resume to UCLA’s, then the Bruins should be ranked higher, and I was a bit embarrassed that I didn’t catch that myself. Nonetheless, the Trojans were ranked higher, and I think they will stay there. USC has convinced many people they have the better eye test, and Lincoln Riley’s name carries weight, whether fans like it or not.

9. Alabama: Hate all you want. Alabama has lost to two top-10 teams this season and has a road win against Texas. Even if they didn’t get every benefit of the doubt, they still have a resume that would keep them from falling too far. If they lose to Ole Miss, all bets are off.

10. UCLA: The Bruins have a showdown with USC coming up. They will need to stay focused on Arizona this weekend and avoid looking too far ahead. If they defeat USC, they will hold the tiebreaker with Utah, and will thus play in the conference championship game.
