The Clemson football schedule has officially been changed due to new ACC model
The 2020 Clemson football schedule has officially been tossed and completely changed with the official adoption of the ACC’s new scheduling model.
The ACC Board of Directors announced Wednesday that all seven fall sports would begin play during the week of Sept. 7-12, with allowance from public health guidance.
As far as football is concerned, the ACC plans to play 10 conference games– beginning the week of Sept. 12- and one non-conference game. Notre Dame will join the league as a full-time member for the 2020 season and will be eligible to compete for the ACC Championship.
The ACC Championship game, which will be played in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, will be played either Dec. 12 or Dec. 19.
The conference will do away with divisions and select the top two teams based upon their record to determine who will compete in the conference title game.
The Clemson football schedule just got more interesting
Say what you want to about the new scheduling model, but Clemson football is basically losing one game in total and will replace two of its lower-level non-conference games with conference opponents. That certainly makes for more exciting action.
Here’s a look at the home games and away games for Clemson football. The dates for these match-ups are TBD, but we’re assuming that they’ll start Saturday, Sept. 12- one week later than the College Football season was previously slated to begin.
Home Games:
- Boston College
- Miami
- Pittsburgh
- Syracuse
- Virginia
Away Games:
- Florida State
- Georgia Tech
- Notre Dame
- Virginia Tech
- Wake Forest
Clemson will now see Pittsburgh, Miami and Virginia Tech, all teams who weren’t previously scheduled, but will miss out on playing NC State and Louisville.
In this model, the Tigers will keep their in-state rivalry game against South Carolina and will still get that away game against Notre Dame.
It will be interesting to see what the actual schedule looks like when it’s released with dates, but this certainly has some intrigue to it in terms of opponents and what we’ll see the Tigers face in 2020.
