After weeks of bad press, Clemson football finally gets some good news.

To say it has been rough for Clemson football and head Dabo Swinney over the last two months would be an understatement. However, the Tigers haven’t flinched and today got some big news.

As you all know, the 2021 recruiting class is the first one since 2014 to lose more than one commitment as they have lost two of the top 50 players in the country. Tonight, as expected, Clemson football got a big-time commitment from Payton Page, one of the nation’s top defensive tackles.

Scouts from across all scouting sites have likened him to former Tiger and North Carolina native Dexter Lawrence – if he is anything like Lawrence when he arrives on campus on six months, the Clemson defensive line will continue to dominate football for the foreseeable future.

Clemson, Tennessee, and UNC were his three finalists and there had been rumors over the last couple months that the SEC Volunteers had made a lot of headway with Page during quarantine but he choose the Tigers tonight citing “family atmosphere” and I am sure the recent surge in national title appearances and national titles didn’t hurt either.

The 2021 Clemson football signing class had dropped to ninth overall in the country after losing Jordan Hancock just two weeks but after the Page commitment this evening, the Tigers moved back up to number four overall with just five months left before college football’s early signing day.

Clemson football received more good recruiting news

Page’s commitment was not the only good news the Tigers received this week from the 2021 signing class.

Four-star linebacker Barrett Carter reaffirmed his commitment to Clemson this week as well. There were a lot of rumors that he too was going to de-commit and follow his close friend and high school teammate, Jordan Hancock.

However, Carter said he was 100 percent all-in and had no plans of playing anywhere but at Clemson.
