Will Clemson football fans be pulling for Duke in 2020?

There’s no question that we’re living in a crazy time that has effected every area of our lives in some way, including our love of Clemson football.

As the Tigers continue to prepare for the upcoming season, there are questions around the country about the viability of a College Football season and if one will be played at all. Programs, including Clemson football, have seen plenty of positive tests since athletes return to campus and there are talks among universities currently about how to safely play a season and what number of fans could fit inside of a stadium.

While all of these questions- and plenty more- are being thrown around, there’s another crazy aspect to this season that many aren’t talking about when it comes to the Tiger faithful: Could Clemson football fans be rooting for Duke in 2020?

Clemson football fans have always hated Duke

We all know that Duke has never really been much of a threat in football, but the hatred for the Blue Devils runs deep in Tiger Town because of the success that program has seen in basketball and the fact that the conference has openly shown favoritism to them, as well as UNC, basically since its inception.

That being said, there’s still going to be a heavy contingent of Clemson football fans who are actively rooting for Duke to compete, excel and win the ACC Coastal Division simply because of one player: Chase Brice.

Brice graduated from Clemson, but still has two years remaining. While Tiger fans obviously would’ve loved for him to stick around, it was obviously understandable that Brice wanted to have a shot at playing time- as he served as the back-up QB for the past couple of seasons.

Though Clemson fans can’t stand Duke, they really can’t help but love Chase Brice.

Brice epitomized what being a team-first player looked like. He never complained and prepared every week to the best of his ability. That all culminated in the 2018 Syracuse game where Brice was thrust into action and led Clemson to a come-from-behind victory that kept the Tigers’ National Championship hopes alive.

With Brice, Clemson doesn’t win a National Championship. It’s basically as simple as that.

Because of that, there are going to be plenty within the Clemson family who support and actively root for Brice to excel- and win a ton of games- as the presumptive starter at Duke.
