Tait Reynolds appears to have outgrown his ball security issues coming out of the bye

Another key part in Tait Reynolds' development at quarterback seems to have been finally realized.

When Dabo Swinney talked about the growth that he saw out of Tait Reynolds after the Charleston Southern game, this might be in line with what he was referring to. Swinney let it be known during Monday's press conference that the first-team offense led by Reynolds has not turned the ball over since coming out of the bye week. Clemson is 2-1 over its last three games since falling to Miami.

While this could be seen as Swinney jinxing his offense ahead of its trap game at Syracuse, it could also signify Reynolds finally playing like a quarterback with a handful of starts under his belt. Clearly, Swinney is a believer in Reynolds' upside and talent, but the production has not always been there. By limiting the turnovers, it has in turn allowed Reynolds to play with more confidence with this offense.

Swinney may be getting ahead of his skis a bit with all this praise of Reynolds, but he does seem to understand the most important part of football: Ball security is job security, yours and mine. With the way that Reynolds has taken it upon himself to take better care of the ball, it has afforded the offense to be more explosive, and not as conservative. It is doing more than just simply winning field position.

Tait Reynolds must play with even more confidence the rest of the season

On the year, Reynolds has three interceptions to match his three touchdowns. While no one wants to see a quarterback throw picks, the biggest concern for Reynolds had been ball security in the ground game. Reynolds' careless fumble in the Cal game was the epitome of a true freshman mistake. He was bailed out by Clemson's defense and special teams during the road game in Berkeley back in Week 4.

As it is with anything, players, coaches, and teams are all allowed to get better over the course of the season. Eight games in, Clemson looks to be improved over the ghastly product we all saw get blown out at LSU over Labor Day Weekend. While Florida State just fired its coach after the Clemson game, the Seminoles were a 5.5-point favorite over the Tigers coming in. Clemson just played its best game.

With four Power Four games left, it will be up to Reynolds to take his game to the next level for the Tigers to make the most out of their season. Although wins over Syracuse and Georgia Tech do feel promising, Clemson's final two games at Duke and home against South Carolina are looking more challenging by the week. If Clemson wants to beat either of those teams, Reynolds has to play well.

Fortunately for him and the rest of the team, the Tigers have a great opportunity ahead of them to gather some much-needed momentum. Getting Syracuse and Georgia Teach in back-to-back noon games could allow for Clemson to get into rhythm and truly build upon what it did last week versus Florida State. If Clemson is to win nine or even 10 games this season, it will be because of Reynolds.

Clemson's offense has been under the gun all season long, but this unit has refused to mail it in.
