After missing last week's game to the Virginia Tech Hokies, it remains to be seen if freshman wide receiver Gordon Sellars III will be healthy enough to take on the Florida State Seminoles. Sellars was ruled out of the Week 8 home loss due to a concussion he suffered the week prior against the FCS Charleston Southern Buccaneers. Sellars only has three receptions for eight yards on the season.
However, Clemson looks to be in great shape heading into the primetime Halloween affair down in Tallahassee. Sellars is the only player listed as questionable, while the seven players who were listed as out on the initial ACC availability report were all totally expected. Although it would be great to see Sellars work on his rapport with Tait Reynolds, it is only a 50-50 proposition that Sellars will even play.
For as damning a loss as last week's was, Clemson has to put its best foot forward to try to salvage the rest of the season. Reynolds needs to play better to make sure Christopher Vizzina does not take his starting job away from him. While getting back to the basics should be key for Reynolds, it might be time for him to trust the younger players in this receiving corps beyond that of the three veterans.
No surprises on Clemson’s end. Only notable TBD player is freshman WR Gordon Sellars III (concussion) https://t.co/vjlOlJ6USS

Tait Reynolds must grow with younger receivers like Gordon Sellars III
For as captivating as the trio of Tyler Brown, TJ Moore, and Bryant Wesco Jr. have been at times leading this Clemson receiving corps, they all could turn pro after this season. Since Reynolds is only a true freshman, it may be in his best interest to see if he can build more chemistry with a few players who are more likely to be part of next year's team. Sellars and Naeem Burroughs both come to mind.
Of course, this does not mean force-feeding the ball to younger receivers who may or may not be open. Frankly, it has been too much of a baptism by fire for Reynolds this season. He may have been thrust into an impossible situation, but he seems to have enough self-awareness to figure out what parts of his game need the most work. Zone reads and spreading the ball around more are critical.
In the event that Sellars can play on Saturday night, it may be in Reynolds' best interest to get him at least a few targets. We all know that Brown, Moore, and Wesco will get theirs. The bigger question with them is if they will hold onto the football when it is thrown in their direction. That being said, it is paramount for the passing game to progress the rest of the way. Otherwise, Clemson is in trouble.
Reynolds, Sellars, and Burroughs are all important building blocks for a better offense tomorrow at Clemson. While they have all gotten invaluable experience as freshmen, it remains to be seen to what degree it will serve them in the end. Clemson's season has been defined by great defense, amazing special teams, and pure ineptitude on offense. Together, they all have to find a way to make it better.
Reynolds-to-Sellars might not save this offense, but it has a better shot than what we are seeing now.
