With a chance at history staring Clemson in the face, now is not the time for the Tigers to feel sorry for themselves. They have a game to win. Although they have only played Georgia Southern once before, that was a dominating 38-7 win for the Tigers back in 2018. Then again, that was a team that went on to win the College Football Playoff, going up against a Group of Five team out of the Sun Belt.
With Clemson laying 20.5 points at home against visiting Georgia Southern, FanDuel Sportsbook is not giving the Eagles much of a chance in this one. The associated moneylines of Clemson at -1600 and Georgia Southern at +860 should only add to this growing notion. Frankly, anything less than a convincing Week 2 victory over the Eagles would raise even more causes for concern for Clemson.

It should not matter for a second who starts at quarterback for Clemson. Dabo Swinney may still be trying to figure that out, but his team has such a massive talent advantage in this one. Not to say it will be a 41-point victory for Clemson, but we may be looking at the inverse of what transpired last week in Baton Rouge. For the sake of everyone's mental health who roots for and covers this team, please!
Simply put, Clemson has no excuse not to look like a well-coached team versus Georgia Southern. The massive point spread is an incredibly strong indicator of that. Regardless, Clemson cannot just walk off the bus, run down The Hill, and prove victorious in Death Valley. The Tigers will have to earn it. Fortunately for them, a shot at history should be on their side with home opener win No. 100 upon us.
For Clemson to re-establish the standard for how this season needs to go, Swinney will need leaders like Sammy Brown, Will Heldt, and Bryant Wesco Jr. to live up to great expectations. Furthermore, he also needs to get something even remotely positive out of Christopher Vizzina, Tait Reynolds, or whoever else takes a snap at quarterback in this ballgame. UNC is not going to be a pushover, folks.
Right now, Clemson fans can look at that home opener stat from TigerNet in one of two ways. They can treat it as proof of an almost certain victory coming for Clemson. Conversely, they can recount losing last year's home opener to LSU for all the world to see. The good news is Georgia Southern is not LSU. While this may no longer be the Clemson of old, we should expect the Tigers to play better.
