For better or worse, the Clemson Tigers will once again be playing under the bright lights. After having played LSU, Georgia Southern, Cal, and Miami in primetime or later, Clemson will have at least three more games this year with 7:00 p.m. ET kickoffs or later. The Tigers will be hosting Virginia Tech in Week 8, right before taking on Florida State at 7:00 p.m. ET on Halloween night down in Tallahassee.
With Clemson playing at Duke on a Friday night in the penultimate week of the season, that gives us a minimum of seven night games out of 12 for the Tigers this year. The Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and South Carolina games have yet to announce their kickoff times. While Clemson can pull a number in any time slot, this is a team that is being placed into way too many primetime slots for its own good.
It may add intrigue to some of these games, but the play on the field has not often matched what this time slot is usually reserved for: West Coast games or marquee matchups featuring ranked teams. Clemson might not play another ranked team the rest of the way. Regardless, the ACC needs regular nighttime programming, and Clemson will surely give it to them. Look for this one to be super spooky!
With this designation, six of Clemson football's first eight games of 2026 will be night games. Guaranteed to have at least one more, too, because the Tigers play a Friday game at Duke in November (7:30 p.m. kick) https://t.co/4XWXGDgByu

Clemson's nighttime advantage could beat Florida State in Tallahassee
With all signs pointing to Mike Norvell coaching in this game for Florida State, could Clemson be the team to put him out of his misery? Yes, it will be a home game for the Seminoles. Norvell is still quite capable of winning games at home. The road is where he has his issues. However, a primetime kick during a major international holiday has all the makings of this game going completely off the rails.
Something has to give between Florida State playing at home and Clemson playing at night. It will be interesting to see what the opening line looks like when it comes out. Would Florida State actually be a home underdog on Halloween night versus a Clemson team that cannot throw touchdowns for the life of it? It is a rivalry game in some aspects, but the play is not up to standard for both parties at all.
Right now, the way this game is being packaged will make it so hard to live up to the hype. If we get a close game between two former ACC Atlantic foes, Clemson and Florida State, that would be so fantastic. If not, well, we can only hope that Clemson is the team winning by a margin. After all, the Tigers are the one team among the rivals that still has an outside shot at playing for a championship.
Ultimately, Clemson getting more than its fair share of primetime kicks tells us everything about the state of the ACC. Yes, it can put Miami in primetime weekly and still draw a number. However, how many other teams of note in this league can realistically do that? Florida State being down for longer than Clemson is not helping this league out at all. Wake Forest is great, but it is not a needle mover.
May Clemson at Florida State even closely resemble the appointment television it was in the 2010s.
