Chad Morris re-establishes the run game

The easiest way to get Vizzina performing at a high level is to establish the run game early. Inconsistencies in the run game over the past few years led to much of the struggles offensively. Garrett Riley was let go and Morris was brought in specifically to re-establish the run game. So, Morris needs to make it happen

The running back room, while still largely inexperienced, does have a ton of untapped talent. The premier back is likely to be sophomore Gideon Davidson. He showed flashes of his talent last season with 260 yards rushing on just 60 carries. Other talented running backs returning for 2026 include David Eziomume, Jarvis Green, and Jay Haynes who should be back from injury.

The Tigers also picked-up former SMU running back Chris Johnson Jr. He is no stranger to performing in Death Valley as he rushed six times for 59 yards and a touchdown last year against the Tigers. Johnson brings the kind of speed that leads to explosive plays when the ball is in his hands. With all of this talent in the room, it will be up to the combination of Morris, Matt Luke, and CJ Spiller to get the run game going in 2026.
