Christopher Vizzina exceeds expectations

For now, we will stay on the path that sees Vizzina staying atop the depth chart. If this is the case, Vizzina needs to exceed the expectations placed on him currently.

From what Vizzina has shown to the Clemson faithful over the last two years, it is hard to believe he will be the one to bring the program back to a championship contender. It’s not just his lack of experience, but also how he’s looked the few times he has been on the field.

At his best, Vizzina is an efficient decision maker with good pocket presence who will throw the football to the correct spot more often than not. The issue is the ball is not likely to arrive as a tight spiral for the receiver to catch it and pick up more yards. Vizzina can use his legs to move in the pocket and escape very well, but he isn't a huge playmaker as a runner. He isn’t going to stress defenses out much when he extends plays.

Some of the abilities might start to show up as he takes more snaps as a starter. He’ll have more reps to show what he can really do. Vizzina will also have the confidence of knowing he is the leader of the offense, and he has a new offensive coordinator who will take some of the pressure off of him.

That is a good recipe for a young quarterback taking over an offense. It gets even better when you start looking at the weapons Vizzina has to throw too. It is extremely possible for Vizzina to outplay what’s expected of him right now. For the Tigers to be successful in turning things around from last season, it’ll have to happen.
