Clemson Tigers News: Both soccer teams advance in NCAA Tournament

Happy Monday Tiger Nation! Here is today’s Clemson Tigers News.

This weekend started great with a win over the Tar Heels and Sunday was just as nice.

Clemson Men’s Basketball 85, Boise State 68: The Tigers got a strong victory against a team that was respected in the rankings. Read more in Marty Coleman’s recap here.

Clemson Volleyball lose to Duke (20-25, 22-25, 29-31): The Tigers fought hard but lost to the Blue Devils in three sets.

Adria Powell continued her hot streak scoring 13 points, which included two aces. Mia McGrath had 11 points and Kateryna Tkachenko had 10.5 points.

The Tigers are now 16-13 overall and 7-10 in the ACC as they turn towards their final regular season match against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg this Wednesday.

Clemson Women’s Soccer 1, Georgia,1 – Tigers win penalty kick shootout 5-3: The Tigers eliminate the Bulldogs and advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

Megan Bornkamp found the net in the 88th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Following overtime, Clemson keeper Halle Mackiewicz made a big save on Georgia’s fourth PK attempt. Clemson hit their final shot to win 5-3.

Head coach Eddie Radwanski felt the Tigers performed well against a strong Georgia team.

"“I think you saw two very good teams today and this is what the NCAA Tournament is all about. We knew Georgia was going to be a formidable opponent and I thought we played really well today.”"

The Tigers played the Bulldogs in September and that contest was also a 1-1 draw when regulation expired.

Clemson will now face Penn State on Saturday, November 25th at Historic Riggs Field.

Clemson Women’s Basketball 102, Longwood 63: The Tigers bounce back and get back on the winning track.

Clemson gave up triple-digits to an elite South Carolina team this week, which can be demoralizing. The Tigers bounced back with their own triple-digit effort, however, against the Lancers. It was the first time Clemson has scored at least 100 points since 2009.

Dayshanette Harris led the Tigers with 20 points. Five other players had double digit points.

Next up for the Tigers is the Van Chancellor Classic in Houston, Texas, where they will play three games in three days. Clemson will face Mississippi State on Friday, Tulsa on Saturday, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday

Clemson Men’s Soccer3, Charlotte 0: The Tigers eliminate the Niners in the NCAA Tournament Second Round at Historic Riggs Field.

Brandon Parrish (34th), Ousmane Sylla (48th) and Arthur Duquenne (87th) scored a goal apiece for Clemson.

Coach Mike Noonan saluted the home crowd.

"“Very proud of this team and we played well tonight. Riggs is a charmed place for this team and we hope we get to play here again. The crowd we gathered for a Sunday night match up was massive and were so lucky to play in front of these fans.”"

The Tigers will now face New Hampshire in the Sweet Sixteen. The Tigers will travel to Wildcat Stadium on Sunday, November 26th.
