Clemson Tigers Football target Corian Gipson announces his commitment today

Defensive back Corian Gipson will announce his college commitment today among finalists Clemson, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia and TCU.

He is a 4-star in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is the 67th-ranked player in the class overall and the seventh-best cornerback. He measures 6’-0” and 170 pounds.

There are several Crystal Balls pointed at Clemson on 247Sports, including one from Steve Wiltfong, their Director of Football Recruiting.

Gipson also runs track for Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas. This is from his recruiting profile on On3:

"“Turns in strong marks as a sprinter in track and field. Consistently runs sub 11 seconds in the 100 meters, with a personal best of 10.62 seconds as a junior. Has lined up at both corner and safety for Lancaster, but is starting to look more and more like a cornerback prospect as his career progresses.“"

The Power Five endorses new NIL legislation

Three senators have drafted new federal legislation called the College Athletes Protection and Compensation Act of 2023 to regulate NIL and give the NCAA a degree of legal protection. The Power Five – ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC – have jointly released a statement supporting the new draft legislation.

Their statement read:

"“As members of the Autonomy Five Conferences, the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC applaud Senators Blumenthal, Booker, and Moran for their thoughtful work on legislation to protect and benefit student-athletes. Given the ever-changing landscape of college athletics, developing a federal standard that will preserve college athletics and serve as a uniform name, image, and likeness (NIL) standard for athletes and institutions across the country is now essential. We are pleased to see that momentum continues building in both the Senate and the House to address this issue.”"

The Paw celebrates a birthday

Friday was the 53rd anniversary of the introduction of The Paw in Clemson sports.

New coach Hootie Ingram wanted to give Clemson sports a makeover, and the development team that set out to create the new logo hit a grand slam. Following an introduction tour, The Paw was all over the place at Clemson, including the iconic paintings on roadways entering town.

One last note: Ryan Ammon’s has signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox.

Ammons was drafted in the 10th round of the recent Major League Baseball draft.
