Clemson Tigers News: DL in portal, 3 in Top 100 and baseball All-American
Perhaps we should name the offseason “As the Roster Churns”, as not a day goes by without something changing the Clemson football roster and we try to figure out what next year, which is really this year, will look like.
The latest name is Etinosa Reuben and he’s entered the transfer portal.
Reuben is a veteran backup with 1 career start and totaled 6 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, a pass breakup, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal in his Clemson career.
With the returnees coming back next year, including Tyler Davis and Ruke Orhorhoro, and the freshman coming in, it’s likely Reuben would remain as a backup; therefore, the change of scenery will likely benefit him.
In other portal news, former Clemson wide receiver E.J. Williams is headed to Indiana.
Recent Clemson football signee Jarvis Green was named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year.
ESPN endeavored to rank the top 100 college football players of 2022 and three Tigers made the list.
Myles Murphy came in at No. 33, Will Shipley at No. 40 and K.J. Henry at No. 81.
Clemson football running back Will Shipley has made huge strides in two seasons
It’s opinion based, so no arguments from me, but I will note Shipley has made big strides from a recruit that some laughed at as a replacement for Travis Etienne, but now resides as one of the 40 best college players (at least in this list).
Clemson baseball catcher Cooper Ingle was named to the preseason Perfect Game third-team All-American team.
Ingle hit .351 with 8 homers, 44 RBIs and a .449 on-base percentage in 2022. Ingle only struck out 29 times in 211 at-bats and threw out 12 of 31 runners attempting to steal.
The baseball season is about six weeks away as the Tigers begin the 2023 season on Feb. 17 against Binghamton at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
We’ll have a lot of baseball coverage here on RTR and if you enjoy podcasts, Casey Cregan had an epic rant on the Sluggo Podcast about Clemson baseball this week.
Finally, the men’s basketball team takes on Pittsburgh this afternoon in another road game for Clemson.
The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2 according to the ESPN website, but Clemson’s site shows ESPNU.
