The resume rankings for teams from 11-25 are more important than you might think. I use the AP Top 25 for these rankings because it is the best gauge of what teams are the most respected at any point in time until the CFP rankings are released. The AP poll’s importance takes a backseat starting Tuesday. When the committee considers resumes while putting together their rankings, they put weight on wins against the teams they believe should be in the Top 25, not the AP voters. The AP may have Syracuse in their rankings, but the committee might disagree. If a team like the Orange does not get respect from the committee, then that could hurt Clemson’s resume. Similarly, the AP may not have Maryland ranked, but if the committee believes they are among the best 25 teams, that would boost Ohio State’s and Michigan’s resumes.
