Teams ranked in the AP Top 25 but don’t have Top 25 resumes:

#21 NC State – resume score: 14

The Wolfpack squeaked by Virginia Tech at home, but there is a silver lining: they may have found a quarterback. If they can get that offense working, they are in good shape since the defense is good.

#22 Syracuse – resume score: 11

Ouch. Two straight losses have crushed the Orange’s once surprising resume score. Karma does help though. Syracuse was unranked for a few weeks when they should have been, so it looks like they get to be ranked at least one more week that they shouldn’t.

#25 UCF – resume score: 7

Ugh, AP voters. Talk about slacking off on the job. UCF got a win against Cincinnati, but that was no reason to rank them. This was a lazy analysis by the AP voters. Shame.

Two of the opponents that Clemson beat for Top 25 wins are on this list. This is a red flag for Clemson’s resume. One more loss by either of these teams will cause their exit from the rankings, and Wake Forest isn’t in a much better position right now either.

Now we need to wait until the committee has done its homework to find out where these teams stand. We will also learn where the committee stands. Do they value resumes more? Do they give more weight to eye tests? Will they be consistent?

The next step is to make a prediction based on what we have learned. Soon, I will take a swing at how the committee members will rank these teams.
