Clemson Men’s Soccer: Tigers dominate second half for 2-0 win at UAB
Defending National Champion Clemson Men’s Soccer defeated the University of Alabama – Birmingham Tuesday evening in Birmingham, Alabama by a score of 2-0.
UAB played an inspired first half, repeatedly stifling the Tigers attack before they could threaten the goal and even outshot an outstanding Clemson offensive squad 3-2 as the first 45 minutes ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Tigers were much more aggressive from the get go in the second half and eventually broke through about 18 minutes into the half with a goal from who else – Ousmane Sylla.
The 1-0 lead felt like comfortable in the flow of the game, but the Tigers second half attack continued and they had the Blazers on the ropes.
A long pass to Tim Strobeck allowed him make a beautiful pass across the face of the goal that Tyler Trimnal was able boot in for his first career goal.
Just like that the Tigers were up by 2 goals with under 10 minutes to go and it was just a matter of time.
After being stymied for the first 45 minutes, Clemson dominated the second half, outshooting the Blazers 14-3 and spending the first 35 minutes on the attack.
Joseph Andema made a career-high five saves in his third shutout in three starts.

In six games the Tigers have outscored their opponents 14-3, and have allowed only 1 goal in their last five matches.
The Tigers now have three consecutive matches scheduled for historic Riggs Field in Clemson:
- ACC rival Syracuse on Friday, September 16th
- Presbyterian College on Monday, September 19th
- Wake Forest on Saturday, September 24th..
After that Clemson travels to North Carolina (September 30) and Pitt (October 7), before finishing the regular season with four out of five matches at home.
