The reigning National Champion Clemson Soccer team was picked to win the ACC in a vote of the league’s head coaches Tuesday.

The Tigers were also ranked number one nationally this preseason.

Half of the league’s 12 head coaches chose Clemson as the overall league champion, with North Carolina and Pitt each gaining 2 votes and Notre Dame and Wake Forest getting a vote apiece.

The Tigers recorded 9 first place votes in the Atlantic Division, totaling 64 points, while Wake Forest received the other three votes and compiled 55 points.

The Coastal Division vote was closer, with Pitt getting 6 first place votes and 57 points, beating out North Carolina with 5 votes and 52 total points.

The Tigers are coming off a wild ride to the title in last year’s NCAA Tournament, when they advanced on penalty kicks twice before defeating Washington 2-0 in the final to claim the programs third national championship in program history and first since 1987.

Along the way Clemson defeated three top nine seeds, including number one.

The Tigers return All-ACC players Ousmane Sylla and Hamady Diop along with College Cup Offensive MVP Isaiah Reid and will do battle against what promises to be a very deep ACC.
