Can you feel it? Clemson football is in the air and while we have to wait a couple days longer than most teams fans do, it’ll be worth it in the long run.  At least that’s the hope.

Over at WynnBet the Tigers are currently 21.5 point favorites over the Yellow Jackets with an over/under of 49.0, which implies a score of 35-14ish in Clemson’s favor.

Back in the summer this number was at 19.5 points, but has edged up slowly over time and as the money has rolled in on Clemson.

That seems about right to me, except I think it’s a stretch for Tech to score 14 against this Clemson defense.  That said, if the Jackets score a defensive or special teams touchdown, or even a late garbage time score, that thought process could be ruled null and void.  It’s one of the hazards of betting the under.

Anywhere from 28-38 seems right to me on the Clemson ledger and for that reason, I think it’s a close call on whether to bet the Clemson side on this bet, though many fans apparently are, with 81% of the bets and 92% of the money on the spread coming in on the Tigers as of this writing.

Giving the heavy betting on the Tigers, the line could increase as we get closer to kickoff.

Clemson football is just a few days away from kicking off the 2020 season and the Tigers are a prohibitive favorite over Georgia Tech

The Money Line is currently set at Clemson -2000 at WynnBet, which implies a straight up win probability for Clemson of 95.24%, while ESPN sets it at 94.3% and Bill Connelly sets it at 92% with a predicted score of 38-13 Clemson.

It really boils down to two things: Do you trust the Clemson offense to score 30+ and how bad is Georgia Tech?

I think the Tigers offense will be better, but perhaps not optimal in game one.  As I pointed out yesterday when the depth chart was released, Will Putnam has 0 snaps in a game as a center and Blake Miller is a true freshman at right tackle.  Long term, I think they’ll both be fine, but sure wouldn’t bet this big of a line in game one.

Just a few more days and the season will be under way in earnest – our first full Saturday of college football is just around the corner.
