Clemson baseball: Spots are filling fast and Bakich reels in in-state Southpaw
Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but last week Clemson baseball coach Erik Bakich flipped another former Michigan commitment to Clemson.
A middle infielder, Purifoy is rated a 9.5 of 10 on the Perfect Game scale, the site describes Purifoy in this manner:
"Excellent lateral agility with very good balance and body control. Advanced defender at shortstop with a very good arm recorded up to 89 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter with an even and slightly open stance. Smooth, on plane swing with lots of line drive contact. Good carry and backspin with a very fluid swing. Hard contact to the middle of the field with very good hand-eye coordination. Great student."
Purifoy, from Detroit, is the seventh former Michigan commit to flip to Clemson after the hiring of Bakich.
Bakich also is working on dominating in-state as he promised upon his hiring, gaining the commitment of 2023 Seneca lefty Jacob McGovern, the 3A State Player of the Year.

McGovern’s 2022 stats are off the charts good:
He went 10-0 with 151 strikeouts to 14 walks and gave up one earned run all season, while holding batters to a .067 batting average.
With another season to go before he arrives on campus, there’s not much of a profile of McGovern on Perfect Game, but they do note his 86 MPH fastball and an increase of 3 MPH over the last two years.
According to Perfect Game, Clemson’s 2023 class, which does not yet show McGovern, is ranked 16th and has two players from the state of South Carolina committed: Ty Marshall, a catcher from Brooklyn Cayce and Jackson Proctor an outfielder from Berkley High in Moncks Corner.
Of the current 9 members of the 2024 class, four are from South Carolina, with players from Lancaster, York, Hartsville and Hilton Head.
