Clemson football: Two Days, Two Commitments: Stephiylan Green Commits to Tigers

Clemson football continues to receive verbal commitments at a rapid rate.

Yesterday, AJ Hoffler committed to Clemson’s Class of 2023. The Tigers had to turn the page quickly, however, because another target was announcing today.

Defensive lineman Stephiylan Green announced today that he is also committing to Clemson.

He is a Top 247 four-star recruit in the Composite. Green is from Rome High School in Rome, Georgia, giving Clemson their third straight commitment from Georgia, following Vic Burley and Hoffler. He is Clemson’s 11th commitment of June, and 14th commitment in the class.

Green is 6’-4” and 267 pounds. He typically lines up inside on this highlight tape, so it seems clear that he will line up at tackle at the next level. He is versatile. One of the first things you will see is that he uses agility and a swim move to beat offensive lineman. Then you also will see him use brute force to push linemen into the backfield so he can make a play behind the line of scrimmage. With his height, I think he will likely target 300 pounds as his ideal playing weight. He might need a year in the weight room to get there.

Clemson adds another impressive specimen along the defensive line

Green is a strong candidate to see his rating increase as his senior season progresses. The main recruiting services aren’t all in sync on his reviews. While Rivals & ESPN has Green as a four-star, 247 Proper has him listed as a three-star, and his bio consists of one line. My experience is that indicates 247 hasn’t had a great opportunity to assess him up close thus far. With his recent commitment to Clemson, I think there is a good chance that 247 will prioritize scouting him closer, and his Composite rating is likely to improve.

Next up on Clemson’s radar is Zechariah Owens, a four-star offensive lineman from McDonough, Georgia. 247 currently has nine Crystal Ball projections for Owens to select Clemson, including three from staffers of The Big Spur, 247’s South Carolina Gamecock website. Owens will announce his commitment on July 4th, hopefully adding more joy to the festivities of the Independence Day holiday.
