When you’re hot, you’re hot, and right now, Clemson football recruiting is hotter than a Carolina Reaper in 90 degree weather.

The Tigers received their 13th verbal commitment for the Class of 2023 from defensive lineman AJ Hoffler.

He is a four-star recruit in the 247 Composite. He hails from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. Hoffler is the sixth commitment for Clemson from the state of Georgia, following the commitment of fellow defensive lineman Vic Burley.

Hoffler is 6’-4” and 240 lbs. He projects as a defensive end, and one of the first things you will notice when you watch his tape is his speed and agility. He often is so quick & twitchy the offensive lineman can’t square up on him to lay a block. Given his height, he can probably add some weight without losing speed, and I suspect Clemson would probably like to get him to 265-270 lbs by the start of the 2023 season.

Hoffler attended Clemson’s official visitor weekend at the beginning of June. He had said that he intended to take more official visits this summer and would wait to commit until August, but when Hoffler tweeted that his mother’s birthday, June 21st, would be a big day, most who cover Clemson recruiting expressed that his timeline had probably been accelerated. He subsequently confirmed that he would be committing on her birthday.

AJ Hoffler’s commitment gives the Tigers double digits for the month and boosts their ranking to near the top

Hoffler becomes the tenth Clemson commitment in the month of June. The Tigers have skyrocketed up 247’s class rankings, and with Hoffler’s commitment Clemson currently has the fourth-best class. We can expect the team rankings to remain fluid for the foreseeable future, as Ohio State and Georgia have welcomed new five-star commitments in the past week, and Penn State is the favorite to land linebacker Tony Rojas.

Clemson Nation may not have to wait too long for more news on the Class of 2023. Four-star defensive lineman Stephiylan Green plans to announce his college commitment on Wednesday, June 22nd. Steve Wiltfong, 247’s Director of Football Recruiting, has entered a Crystal Ball for Clemson, as have three other 247 analysts. Coaches Nick Eason and Lemanski Hall have put in the work this summer, and it is paying off nicely.
