Three realistic expectations for Clemson football against N.C. State

3. The ‘no touchdown streak’ likely comes to an end

Let me start by saying that the Clemson defense is elite and there’s no doubt this unit will help the Tigers win a ton of games this season.

That being said, a realistic expectation for this game is that the ‘no touchdown streak’ of three games likely comes to an end.

N.C. State is the most capable offense that Clemson has faced this season, even counting Georgia. They have a formidable offensive line and they’re going to run the ball with two running backs before using QB Devin Leary to activate a solid group of wide receivers. They’re going to take a few shots at times and Leary isn’t afraid to run the ball when called upon.

When you talk about a team that’s going to throw the ball and they’re going to run tempo, there’s just an increased chance that the Tigers suffer a missed assignment and that, at some point, leads to a touchdown.

By no means are we saying that Clemson is going to give up 30 points or not be able to get off the field. All we’re simply pointing out is in this day and age of College Football where the offense is given every single advantage in the book, it’s only a matter of time before an offensive unit crosses the end zone against the Tigers.

Georgia Tech almost did it twice last weekend and a realistic expectation this weekend is that N.C. State will at least find a way to get in the end zone and you know what that means: It’s going to be up to the Clemson offense to respond and score.
