Clemson football: Tajh Boyd will be an excellent addition to coaching staff
One of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the Clemson football program will be returning home to become part of the coaching staff.
Tajh Boyd, who was the starting quarterback for Clemson football from 2011 to 2014, led the Tigers to an ACC Championship, as well as program-defining bowl victories against LSU and Ohio State.
In an exclusive interview with WACH’s Mike Uva, Boyd revealed that he would be joining the Clemson coaching staff in a new role. The position, according to Boyd, will be a mixture of a player development role and an analyst.
"“I’ve been through so much with this game: loved it, hated it and everything else in-between. The fact that I get to give that back; help guys navigate through those experiences and get to relearn the game in a different light is really exciting for me going forward,” Boyd said via WACH."
Boyd said he will spend time “relearning the game” and that he is looking forward to getting back with the program that he calls home. He revealed that Dabo Swinney had reached out to him before about potentially joining the staff and he said he wasn’t ready or interested at those points, but that he feels he is ready to come back to the game now.
"“For a while now, I’ve been trying to find something to commit to; something to be a part of and I think this is that… Me and coach Swinney talked about it and (Swinney said), ‘We talked about this idea of you coming back and getting back into the game and quite frankly I don’t know if you would’ve been ready for it. But I know that you’re ready for it now.'”"
Tajh Boyd is going to be an excellent addition to the Clemson football coaching staff
Though he never had the opportunity to compete for a national championship, Boyd was an instrumental part of helping build the program and will forever be etched as one of the best to do it while at Clemson.
Still to this day, Boyd holds the all-time career passing record with 11,904 yards and the all-time total offense record with 13,069 yards. He is also the passing touchdown leader with 107 career touchdown passes.
When you talk about the amount of success that Boyd saw during his time as a Tiger and the experience that he’s going to bring to the program, you can see why this is considered a homerun hire for Clemson.
Boyd knows the game and he has been a great ambassador for the Clemson football program during his time. He knows about leadership and he knows what it took to get the program to the level it is at now. In addition, he is also humble and knows that he has a lot to learn. He’ll be able to do just that under the experienced coaching staff that the Tigers possess.
Don’t be surprised if we’re seeing Tajh Boyd in an on-the-field role, like a positional coach, in the not-so-distant future as he progresses in this new journey in the coaching profession.
