Former Clemson football great and the 2021 NFL draft first pick, Trevor Lawrence, finally signed his rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Trevor Lawrence was probably the worst kept secret in recent NFL draft history as everyone knew that the former Clemson football player was the choice for Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. Sure, they did their “research” but they realized early on that Lawrence was simply different than any other quarterback in the draft.

By putting his pen to paper, Lawrence became the highest-paid NFL rookie in Clemson football history.

His 4-year $36.7 million deal is fully guaranteed and is almost three times the amount that Deshaun Watson received on his rookie deal – though there were 11 spots between where the two were drafted as Watson went 12th overall to the Texans in 2017.

Not all Clemson football players have signed their rookie deals

Of the five former Clemson football players to hear their names called in the 2021 NFL draft, two of them remain unsigned.

Former receiver Amari Rodgers has yet to sign with the Green Bay Packers and the ACC’s all-time leader in everything rushing, Travis Etienne, has yet to sign his rookie deal with the Jaguars.

Because of the NFL rookie pay scale, we know what each rookie will ultimately sign for – the hold-up is usually language in the contract regarding injuries and what happens if a player is released before the contract ends.

Rodgers is expected to eventually sign a 4-year contract worth $4.89 million, and Etienne will earn $12.898 million over his first four years in the NFL.

In addition to Lawrence, two other Tigers have signed their first NFL contracts since hearing their names called. Former left tackle Jackson Carman signed a 4-year $7.449 million contract with the Bengals as former receiver Cornell Powell signed a 4-year $3.7 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.

All five players are expected to report to the start of their team’s training camp at the end of the month.
