The Clemson football program doesn’t currently have a commitment on the defensive side of the ball for the 2022 recruiting cycle, but that could soon be about to change.

Two major 4-star defensive targets for the Clemson football coaching staff are set to announce their decisions this week.

Sherrod Covil Jr., who is rated as a 4-star and the No. 11 safety in the country, is set to announce his commitment at the 5-star Challenge in Atlanta, GA on Thursday.

In addition to Covil’s decision on Thursday, another 4-star defensive back target will also be announcing his commitment this week.

4-star CB Toriano Pride, who is rated as the No. 23 cornerback in the nation and the No. 4 overall player from the state of Missouri, announced he would be committing this Friday.

Where does Clemson football stand with both prospects?

Clemson is in as good of shape as it could possibly be with both of these 4-star prospects. We told you earlier this week that commitments are on the horizon for the Tigers and the truth of the matter is that they enter both decision dates as the favorite.

Anything can happen in the world of recruiting, but everything looks to be in good position right now for Clemson football.

After visiting Clemson for the Elite Retreat, Covil told North Carolina that he would not be visiting Chapel Hill for a previously-scheduled official visit. He currently has five 247 crystal ball predictions for the Tigers- all listed as ‘high’ confidence- with the lone other going to Virginia Tech, listed with a ‘low’ confidence.

Pride visited Oregon and Ohio State before making his trip to the Elite Retreat last weekend, as well.

Though the Buckeyes and Ducks seemed to be a factor, it has been believed that the Tigers were the leader in the clubhouse for much of his recruitment. He has five 247 crystal ball predictions all going to Clemson.
