The allowance from the NCAA for prospects to visit campus again after a more than year-long Dead Period is already doing wonders for the Clemson football program on the recruiting trail.

Clemson is certainly behind its usual commitment total at this point in the 2022 recruiting cycle as the Tigers only have four commits when typically they’ve already put together close to half their class. That can be attributed to the fact that the Clemson football coaching staff members have slow-played their recruitments on many levels and the fact that the program has been hurt by not being able to host in-person visits.

5-star DE Jeremiah Alexander took his first visit of the summer to Clemson earlier this week and the returns have been absolutely tremendous.

Recruiting Insider Hawes Fawcett reported that Alexander now has a new leader in his recruitment and it’s not his in-state school.

Alexander, according to Fawcett and several other reports, has now listed Clemson football as his favorite

While it’s absolutely great news that the Tigers are considered the leaders at the moment for Alexander, the truth of the matter is that they still have plenty of work to do.

Alexander was considered almost a ‘lock’ to the Alabama Crimson Tide for the majority of his recruitment and Nick Saban isn’t done yet. In addition to Bama, Georgia has been recruiting him hard and Alexander will be taking a trip to Athens next.

Alabama and Georgia have been the two best recruiting programs- at least in terms of star-ratings- over the last couple of cycles without question and they’re both going to continue to recruiting Alexander extremely hard over the next few months as his recruitment isn’t close to being over.

Alexander is going to take official visits this fall and we likely won’t hear a final decision from him until after those visits are taken and it may very well end up being December.

We like where Clemson is positioned currently, but the Tigers are going to be entrenched in a battle for the explosive edge-rusher for quite some time.
