There have been some elite teams come through College Football over the course of the sport’s existence and there’s no doubt that Clemson football has had at least a couple of those.

The Tigers have won a total of three National Championships in program history and they have competed in six-straight CFB Playoffs at this current point.

CBS Sports HQ, through 247 Sports, recently posted a graphic asking ‘What is the best College Football team in history?’

The list has some good ones, like 2001 Miami, 1995 Nebraska, 2004 USC, 2005 Texas, 2019 LSU and the most recent National Champion 2020 Alabama. But there’s one team that seems to be missing from the list that Clemson football fans would certainly take notice: The 2018 Clemson team.

The case for the 2018 Clemson football team as one of the greatest of all-time

All of those teams are deserving, but the problem is that the 2018 Clemson team gets completely written off for no good reason. The Tigers deserve to be on this list.

Clemson won its three postseason games- the ACC Championship and two CFB Playoff games- by an average margin of 29 with a true-freshman quarterback at the helm. That team had one of the nastiest defenses we have seen in recent history and it really showed when they played Alabama.

Everyone forgets that Alabama was deemed “the best team of the century” by numerous analysts and thousands of fans as the 2018 season unfolded. This Crimson Tide team was said to be ‘unstoppable’ and Clemson was given next-to-no chance heading into the matchup.

So what did the Tigers do? They absolutely shut down that Alabama offense and crushed the Tide 44-16.

That team would have three of its starters on the defensive line taken in the first-round and that freshman quarterback- Trevor Lawrence- would go on to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

There was all kinds of NFL talent on that Alabama team and Clemson made them look like just another ACC opponent- sorry, SEC fans. That shouldn’t be ignored.

In a world where we idolize teams like 2019 LSU and 2020 Alabama, it seems many are just content to forget about 2018 Clemson football. Anyone who really watched that team play, though, knows just how elite they truly were.
