The Clemson football team enters the 2021 season as one of the expected favorites to compete for the CFB Playoff and the National Championship.

While the Tiger will be without two historical talents in QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne- who both were taken in the first-round of the NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars- there is plenty of optimism surrounding the state of the program and what successes might be achieved over the next few years.

Though the Tigers will be without Lawrence and Etienne, there are many who believe the offense could actually achieve even higher levels this year as former 5-star D.J. Uiagalelei takes over as the starting quarterback and the team boasts one of the strongest and deepest groups of wide receivers and running backs that it has had in a while.

ESPN FPI win totals for Clemson football & other national contenders

ESPN’s 2021 College Football Power Index has expected win totals for the upcoming season and, to no surprise, the Tigers are on the top.

According to ESPN’s FPI, Clemson football has a projected win total of 11.5. The Tigers are given a 21 percent chance of winning out, which is also highest in the nation.

Here’s a look at some of the other national leaders:

  1. Clemson (11.5)
  2. Oklahoma (11.2)
  3. Alabama (11.1)
  4. Ohio State (10.8)
  5. Iowa State (10.0)
  6. Coastal Carolina (9.9)
  7. Oregon (9.8)
  8. Cincinnati (9.7)
  9. Texas A&M (9.6)
  10. Georgia (9.5)

For those who are wondering, the decimal places indicate what the FPI believes the team will be closer to on wins. Clemson is given a 50/50 chance of finishing the season with 11 wins or 12 wins. Oklahoma and Alabama are given a slight lower percentage chance of finishing the season with 12 wins and, instead, are projected to more likely have 11 wins.

Clemson is given a 100 percent chance at six wins, an 89.3 percent chance of winning the ACC Atlantic, a 72.1 percent chance of winning the ACC, a 64.6 percent chance of making the CFB Playoff, a 32.1 percent chance of making it to the National Championship and a 15.4 percent chance of winning the National Title.

Alabama (30.8) and Oklahoma (25.7) are both given higher chances at winning the National Championship than the Tigers.
