The Clemson football program has been in the midst of a bit of a losing streak when it came to the recruiting trail the past few months.
The Tigers were in heavy with 5-star QB Ty Simpson before he ultimately committed to Alabama. Clemson rebounded by picking up a commitment from 4-star QB Cade Klubnik, who is still moving up recruiting rankings, and things seem to be back on the right track before the Tigers lost two-straight commitments to Georgia.
One- 5-star S Malaki Starks- wasn’t surprising. The other- 4-star LB Jalon Walker– was definitely a shocker.
Anyone who had followed Walker’s recruitment knew that the Tigers were seemingly the leader for the last year. That is, until the final month of his recruitment when things started to trend in the wrong direction.
Walker was Clemson’s top linebacker target and the Tigers have been conservative in their approach to recruiting the position since losing out on that battle.
Clemson football is starting to show interest in a 4-star LB from the state of Florida
Clemson was only planning to take one linebacker in this class and the sentiment still remains the same after losing out on Walker.
The Tigers had offered just three outside linebackers- Walker, 4-star Daniel Martin and 4-star TJ Dudley- but it seems they could be expanding their board here in the near future.
Though they’re both still uncommitted, there hasn’t been a ton of traction with Martin or Dudley as of yet. But we wouldn’t close the book on Martin just yet.
That being said, Clemson is exploring other potential offers at the position and one that is starting to resonate more is 4-star LB DeMario Tolan.
Tolan is set to visit Clemson this June and there has been contact between him and the Tiger coaching staff for quite some time now. There’s a chance an offer could come to fruition during his visit.
Tolan is rated as the No. 9 ILB in the nation and the No. 28 player from the state of Florida. LSU is considered the leader in the clubhouse with Florida State and Miami also involved, but there is definitely an opportunity if the Tigers want it.
