Clemson football: Thomas Austin, Ted Roof joining Tiger program
Clemson football is making moves in its staff & consultant additions
As we told you last week, former Clemson football offensive lineman Thomas Austin is returning home after accepting a new role as an Offensive Analyst with the Tigers.
Austin worked as a grad assistant for Clemson football from 2014 to 2018 before taking the offensive line coach position at Georgia State. He worked at Georgia State for the last three seasons and has built up a nice rapport during that time.
While nothing has been officially announced, it was reported by The Clemson Insider that Austin was drawn away from Georgia State by Dabo Swinney’s pitch that he could be the next in line when current offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell, 67, retires.
In addition, Austin will reportedly make more than the average analyst to account for the income he was making at Georgia State.
While having the familiar face of Thomas Austin back with Clemson football is exciting, there’s also another name joining the Tiger program
Ted Roof will be working as a defensive consultant with the Clemson football program this season.
Roof, who served as Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator last season, has coached as a defensive coordinator at App State, NC State, Duke, Georgia Tech and Penn State in the past. He was also the head coach at Duke from 2004-2007.
TCI reported that Roof will not be an official employee of the Clemson Athletics and he will not be paid by the athletic program. While it’s not confirmed, the belief is that Dabo Swinney will be paying him but no details have emerged as of yet.
Both Austin and Roof are reportedly already in Clemson and will help the Tigers this spring as they go through practice.
Clemson will begin Spring Practice on Wednesday and will have a total of 15 sessions throughout February, March and April, ending with the annual Orange & White Spring Game on Saturday, April 3.
