4-star Clemson football QB target Ty Simpson has moved his decision date back
The top quarterback target in the class of 2022 for the Clemson football program has moved his decision date back.
Ty Simpson, a native of Martin, TN, was originally supposed to announce his commitment this Friday at his high school.
However, due to inclement weather and school closure, Simpson said on Twitter that he is moving his decision date back to Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. CST (or 3 p.m. ET).
Simpson has been pegged as the priority QB target for Clemson football in this recruiting cycle and Simpson even revealed during an interview last week that he had spoken with Tiger QB Trevor Lawrence.
Moving the decision back isn’t necessarily a good thing for Clemson football, but it shouldn’t affect the Tigers too much
While Simpson has a top-five of Clemson, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Ole Miss, the overarching belief is that the Tigers, Crimson Tide and Vols are really the only three schools who have a shot.
Many recruiting analysts have pegged this as a battle between Clemson and Alabama following the potential sanctions facing Tennessee, but Simpson has been nothing but complimentary of the Vols. He even revealed last week that he had spoken to new Tennessee Head Coach Josh Heupel upwards of 20 times.
Clemson football holds the three crystal ball predictions made by 247 Sports analysts and the Tigers seem to be the favorite.
That’s why moving the decision back isn’t necessarily pegged as a good thing for the Tigers.
Some Tennessee fans were of the belief that the only way they beat Clemson for Simpson is if he moves his decision date back, but just a week is not likely what they were hoping for.
Still, it’s another week for Simpson to mull the decision and it’s clear, at least at this point, that the Tigers are facing a major battle as they try to fend off intense recruiting efforts being made by both Tennessee and Alabama.
