4-star QB drawing interest from Clemson football

The Clemson football program hasn’t even officially ushered in the era of D.J. Uiagalelei and the Tigers are already in more battles for top QB prospects.

That’s the nature of College Football recruiting, though.

Clemson just saw one of the best QBs in program history declare for the NFL Draft in Trevor Lawrence and now all eyes will be on transcendent talent and former No. 1 QB in the nation D.J. Uiagalelei, who will be playing in his second season with the Tigers.

While Uiagalelei technically has four years of eligibility remaining because of the NCAA waiver during the 2020 season, it’s only expected that he’ll be around for two seasons before he- like Lawrence- declares for the NFL Draft and is taken as a top-five pick.

Then, the question becomes his successor and that’s a little of what the Tigers are looking at right now.

Clemson currently has dished out two offers at the quarterback position for the 2022 class in 4-star Ty Simpson and 4-star Braden Davis. There could be another potential offer on the way in the form of 4-star QB Cade Klubnik.

Clemson football QB coach Brandon Streeter has been keeping close contact with Klubnik

If another QB offer is going to be given out, it almost seems like a given that it’s going to be Klubnik at this point.

He is generating interest from many teams around the nation and the Tigers are among them.

Klubnik- currently rated as the No. 6 pro-style QB in the nation and the No. 24 player from the state of Texas- is bound to get an increase in his rankings sooner rather than later.

Just this past weekend, Klubnik went head-to-head with the nation’s top QB prospect- 5-star Quinn Ewers (an Ohio State commit)- and outdueled him on the way to a victory in the Texas Class 6A state championship.

Klubnik finished the day completing 18-of-20 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown, as well as 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Ewers went 23-of-39 for 351 yards, three touchdowns and also had two interceptions.

With a performance like that, you know that all the big names are going to come calling. Interestingly enough, though, Klubnik reiterated that he is still open to many different schools and doesn’t have a top-five as of yet.

Could that be a message to the Clemson football coaching staff that he is waiting for their offer?

There’s nothing not to like about Klubnik and the attention he is beginning to garner is well-deserved.

It remains to be seen if Clemson will offer him or if things would work out even if the Tigers did offer him, but one thing is certain: The Tigers aren’t too late to the party and there is at least an intrigue developing between the two parties.

Clemson currently has three commitments in the 2022 recruiting class, all of them are 4-stars (two OTs and one WR).
