Many Clemson football fans owe Dabo Swinney a massive apology

Big news surrounding the Clemson football program began to break Friday afternoon and it was certainly to the surprise of many Tiger fans.

Tiger Illustrated’s Larry Williams was the first to report that there would be a bit of a shakeup among the Clemson football coaching staff moving forward. Following Williams’ report, several other outlets began to confirm the changes.

Here’s a rundown of what coaching changes we are expecting to happen:

  • C.J. Spiller will take over as the RBs Coach
  • Tony Elliott will become the TE Coach
  • Danny Pearman (former Special Teams Coordinator & TE Coach) will now take on an off-field scouting role that will include self-scouting and transfer portal evaluations.
  • Andrew Zow– who just came from Alabama- is expected to take over the role of offensive player analyst formerly held by Chansi Stuckey.

With the news of Pearman and the changes that Swinney is making, some Clemson football fans owe him an apology.

Clemson football is still working to stay ahead of the curb and that is prevalent with this next move

I’m not talking about the fans who questioned Swinney or said that the Tigers needed to evolve or move forward. There’s nothing wrong with fans who were hoping that Swinney would change his mind or that we would see the program adjust to the everchanging landscape of College Football.

I wrote as much just last week.

I’m talking about the fans who left Clemson for dead (and you know who you are). I’m talking about the fans that gave up hope and said that Swinney would ‘never change.’ There was a large contingent of this fan base who acted as if Swinney was unable to change and that he would never even consider it. That he would just let CFB pass him by.

That’s taking it to another step than just questioning or doubting.

The reality is pretty simple: Swinney just made a major statement in terms of what his goals are moving forward.

Swinney and this Clemson football program remain ahead of the curve- now with a position dedicated specifically to evaluating the NCAA Transfer Portal- and he just proved with this move that he is focused on winning and making this program the best that it can be.

We’ve got a good one, Clemson football fans. He’s not perfect by any stretch, but ‘trusting the process’ isn’t just a phrase when you’ve got Dabo Swinney around.
