Clemson Football: The hate runs deep with Ohio State
The hate runs deep between Clemson football and Ohio State
There are few programs around the country that draw the ire of Clemson football, but there’s no doubt that Ohio State is one of them and the Buckeyes might very well be on the top of the list.
The hate between Clemson football fans and Ohio State fans has been prevalent and ever-growing since the Playstation Fiesta Bowl back in December of 2019 when the Tigers beat the Buckeyes 29-23, capped off with a Nolan Turner interception of Justin Fields in the end zone.
Since that point, Clemson fans have had to hear from Ohio State fans about how ‘they didn’t really lose that game’ and how it was ‘the officiating that gave the Tigers the win.’ The disdain for one another only grew this offseason after OSU fans continued to accuse Dabo Swinney of all kinds of nonsense (on several occasions).
While it may have died down a little over the course of the season, the hate is now back at its peak again with the two teams facing a rematch in just a couple of weeks for a chance to advance to the National Championship.
It’s not just Clemson football fans that have a special hate for Ohio State, though.
Dabo Swinney and Ryan Day have already showed their disdain for one another and it didn’t take long.
Day promised he was going to come away with a win in the CFB Playoff after the Buckeyes’ Big Ten Championship on Saturday. (Viewer discretion advised for language)
And then we got Swinney’s final ranking in the Coaches’ Poll, where he placed Ohio State No. 11 overall- behind Coastal Carolina.
Many national media are pegging this as more ‘motivation’ for Ohio State, but anyone that has followed this feud long enough knows there’s plenty of motivation to go around and the Tigers are going to be amped up to play in this one.
They’ve heard the chirping. Swinney knows what’s been said about him by Buckeyes fans. Ohio State may have had this game circled for a year, but there’s no doubt Clemson has had it circled, as well.
The hate runs deep between these two programs and we’re going to see some major emotions and hard-played football on New Year’s Day when they face off in the Sugar Bowl.
