Clemson Football: Darien Rencher named 2020 ‘Disney Spirit Award’ recipient
Clemson football has a ‘Disney Spirit Award’ winner
Clemson football RB Darien Rencher has been named the recipient of the ‘Disney Spirit Award,’ given to College Football’s most inspirational player.
Rencher- who was instrumental in Clemson’s movements for equality earlier this offseason and then was a major voice in the #WeWantToPlay movement when it seemed College Football was going to be canceled- has proven to be one of the unquestioned leaders on this Clemson football team.
Though he isn’t a starter on the depth chart, Rencher has continued to motivate his teammates and make an impact on a national scale through his leadership and character. That is why he was given the award.
Rencher’s teammates and coaches were given the opportunity to celebrate with him when Dabo Swinney surprised him by reading the nomination prior to a practice on Monday night.
Clemson football is about so much more than just winning games
There is no doubt Darien Rencher is going to be successful at whatever he elects do next in life. He has garnered the respect of the entire Tiger locker room and the nation for how he has conducted himself and continued to show love, honor, class, character and leadership.
There is no player in the nation more deserving of this honor than Rencher, and there’s no doubt about that.
"“Darien is a true inspiration to his team and community,” said Disney Sports Vice President Faron Kelley. “On and off the field, he has been a voice for change and unity, and we couldn’t be more proud to recognize him as the 2020 recipient of the Disney Spirit Award.”"
Rencher has overcome adversity and is using his platform to make a difference in the community. He has left a lasting impact that will follow him well after his football career has come to a close.
We at Rubbing the Rock want to say ‘congratulations’ to Darien Rencher for this accomplishment and know that it was well-earned and well-deserved. Rencher will continue to be a great ambassador for the Clemson program and beyond when he does choose to move on and there’s no doubt he’ll be successful in whatever he chooses to do next.
