Clemson Football: Don’t mess with an angry Tigers team, it won’t end well
Don’t mess with an angry Clemson football team
There’s no doubt that the Clemson football team came out against the Pittsburgh Panthers looking to alleviate some frustrations from weeks past.
The Tigers entered Saturday’s contest against the Panthers without playing a game in nearly three weeks. The last time we saw Clemson football on a field, the Tigers dropped a game to Notre Dame on the road without Trevor Lawrence (positive test),as well as James Skalski, Tyler Davis and a plethora of other starters who were out due to injuries.
Just when they thought they were about to play a game last weekend, Florida State elected to cancel just four hours before game time. The Tigers had to travel back home from Tallahassee and wait yet another week to get on the field.
That clearly didn’t sit well with them.
Clemson football came out firing on all cylinders
The Tigers forced three interceptions in the first quarter against Pitt.
In the first quarter, Lawrence found E.J. Williams for a five-yard touchdown. That was followed up by a B.T. Potter field goal. Then we saw a Lawrence flea-flicker (right after Pitt had thrown an interception off a flea-flicker) that went for a 43-yard touchdown to Cornell Powell.
Travis Etienne and Lyn-J Dixon both would go on to score touchdowns in the first quarter and before you could blink, Clemson was up 31-0.
The Tigers cooled down in the second and third quarters and allowed Pitt to score a couple of times, but make no mistakes about it: They were getting their frustrations out in the first quarter in a big way.
As a result, we saw a nearly spotless performance through the first 15 minutes and that showed just what a motivated Clemson football team is capable of accomplishing.
The Tigers still have plenty to clean up as we move forward, but make no mistake about it: No team across the nation wants to deal with a motivated or angry Clemson football team.
