Clemson Football: FSU praying game doesn’t get rescheduled
For the sake of its dignity, FSU better hope it doesn’t reschedule with Clemson football
There is still talk about Clemson football rescheduling its game against the Florida State Seminoles in just a few weeks and that just seems like a terrible idea. Well, at least for one party involved.
Florida State elected to cancel its game with the Clemson football team this past weekend after learning of a positive case that traveled with the Tiger team, who was isolated upon notification that he was positive. That player had shown mild symptoms- as thousands have across the nation- on Monday and Tuesday, but tested negative. He didn’t show symptoms after that and tested positive, though still showing no more symptoms, on Friday.
Though the ACC medical staff cleared the game to be played and Clemson football had followed strenuous protocols, FSU refused and then the blame game ensued.
FSU fans and national media members harped on a false statement that the player was symptomatic when he traveled with the team. Dabo Swinney came out with strong words against the Seminoles and said that ‘COVID was an excuse to cancel the game.’
Of course, that didn’t sit well with Florida State Coach Mike Norvell, who accused Clemson of practicing with a symptomatic player- which is false- and then followed that up by saying he would help donate money to help with the Tigers’ travel expenses if an agreement could be reached to play the game at a later date.
Just stop while you’re ahead, FSU. The last thing you want is to see Clemson football on the opposite sideline this season.
No matter what side of the fence you fall on when it comes to the ‘blame game’ of Saturday’s cancellation, there’s one thing we all can agree on: It’s not in the best interest of Florida State to play Clemson this year.
It’d be better for the Seminoles to just play this one quietly from here on out and let it all blow over in the hopes that the Tigers might be more forgiving next season.
I can go ahead and tell you this: After all that has happened this past weekend (and more that’s likely to come in terms of the exchanging of words, etc.), the last thing a depleted, opt-out heavy FSU team that already had nowhere near the talent of Clemson should want to do is get back on the field with the Tigers.
There’s absolutely no incentive for Swinney to pull out his starters. There’s absolutely no reason that- as frustrated and angry as he was- he won’t see exactly how high that scoreboard can go. And it’s highly doubted that any Clemson football fan would blame him for doing so.
You want to see Clemson actually attempt to run the score up on an opponent? (Something the Tigers simply don’t do). Then, schedule Florida State.
In the end, when it comes to the football side of things, there’s a much bigger talent gap between the two programs than any Seminole fan, player or coach would like to admit and the last thing they need is for that to be exposed to close out their putrid season.
