Trevor Lawrence is a special talent, but that doesn’t mean he can thrive everywhere

There seems to be a growing amount of momentum moving forward about Trevor Lawrence and his potential future NFL home as we progress through the month of October.

Trevor Lawrence, who is currently considered to be the unquestioned No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is in the midst of a magical run with the Clemson football program and the best season of his career so far. Through the first five games of the 2020 season, Lawrence has completed 73 percent of his passing attempts for 1,544 yards and 15 touchdowns to just one interception. That’s good enough for a 192.7 QB rating.

It’s still early on in the season, but just for comparison: Trevor Lawrence is more than a full yard ahead of his 2019 yards per attempt number (9.0) with a Y/A of 10.4 and his current QB rating (192.7) is nearly 30 points better than what he finished with in 2019 (166.7).

With the amount of success he’s having, combined with the pure talent, Lawrence seems like a shoo-in to be the No. 1 pick in next spring’s draft and his potential team seems to be emerging, as well: The New York Jets.

Trevor Lawrence would be ruined by the New York Jets

The Jets are currently the only winless team in the NFL and there’s growing speculation that the franchise could be looking to offload current QB Sam Darnold in preparation for the No. 1 pick.

That being said, this is exactly what Clemson football fans should be pulling against– unless you’re a Jets fan, of course.

Trevor Lawrence can be a Hall of Fame quarterback at the next level, but you’d be wasting his talent for him to end up with the Jets. This has been one of the most poorly-ran professional sports franchises in the country and Lawrence would be entering a situation where there is absolutely no talent around him.

Very few weapons, a questionable offensive line and a management group with a prove track record of messing things up. I’m not sure you could dream up a much worse situation.

Let’s also not forget that the Jets drafted Darnold with the No. 3 overall pick just less than a handful of years ago and have yet to develop him or put any pieces around him for him to have a chance to be successful. Why would things be any different for Trevor Lawrence?

We want to see Lawrence thrive at the next level, but hopefully things change in a hurry because the Jets might be the worst option available for Lawrence’s long-term success.
