There’s an obsession with Clemson football by the Ohio State Buckeyes and it’s apparent

The Clemson football program has seen an amount of success during the CFB Playoff era unlike any other program.

The Tigers have competed in five-straight CFB Playoffs with four National Championship appearances and two National Titles under the leadership of Dabo Swinney.

While there have been many teams to have seemingly been broken following a loss to the Clemson football program, none have been more success than the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes led for the vast majority of their Playstation Fiesta Bowl matchup against Clemson back in December of 2019 during the CFB Playoff semifinals, but it was the Tigers who made the plays necessary to ultimately win the game. Trevor Lawrence led Clemson on a 4-play, 94-yard drive that ended with a touchdown and Justin Fields threw an interception to Nolan Turner in the end zone to clinch the win for the Tigers.

Though Ohio State had plenty of opportunities to win the game, Buckeyes fans- and administration alike- blamed the officiating for the loss, instead of their ineptitude in the big moment.

The result? An offseason full of complete Clemson football obsession

During the majority of the offseason, Ohio State fans were all over the Clemson football program surrounding any news that may reflect negatively on the Tigers. It’s almost as if Clemson lives rent-free.

With the resumption of the 2020 College Football season, it seemed as if the vast majority of fans from both teams had gone back to following their team, but then Ohio State’s staff proved yet again that the Tigers are on the forefront of their mind.

Ohio State has a digital board as players enter their facilities showcasing the score of the 2019 Fiesta Bowl.

It’s not that displaying the score is a bad thing. We’ve seen programs use monumental losses as motivational tactics before. It’s more about the fact that this has been going on all offseason long.

Ohio State has continuously talked about Clemson both behind-the-scenes and in front of the camera. Buckeye fans have made it completely clear how they feel about the Tigers and it has just seemingly become an unhealthy obsession.

OSU better hope that it can keep its eyes off of Clemson long enough to play a Big Ten schedule, because they’re going to need every single win possible just to get their shot at the Tigers.

Yes, we all know everyone wants a shot at the king. But you’ve got to work your way back first and, honestly, things haven’t gone so well for Ohio State before when they’ve gotten their chances against Clemson football.
