It’s time for Clemson football to do a little experimenting
The talent and athleticism of Taisun Phommachanh shouldn’t go to waste in this Clemson football program.
Phommachanh- who had fallen to third-string on the quarterback depth chart and had have difficulties all season in limited action getting anything going in the passing game- broke his hand during the Georgia Tech game Saturday and there is doubt about what his availability will be as the season progresses.
Could that mean it’s time for Clemson football to do a little experimenting?
Taisun Phommachanh and Clemson football could benefit from a potential position switch
While it depends on the extent of the injury as to how much work Phommachanh could get in at different positions, he certainly could benefit from trying out new things during this time.
It’s become increasingly clear that D.J. Uiagalelei is the second-string and that he is going to be the future face of the Clemson football program beginning next season when Trevor Lawrence leaves. So what would Phommachanh have to lose from trying out a new position?
He has great athleticism and could be a really tough wide receiver to defend. Now, it may be difficult for him to transition to the wide receiver position with a broken bone in his hand, but we have seen receivers play with broken bones in their hands before and, if he could, he could potentially provide depth and talent to a position that needs it currently.
There’s also the potential for Phommachanh to move to defensive back for the Tigers and use his strength as an asset on the defensive side of the ball.
No matter how you look at it, neither party has anything to lose by trying out a new position and seeing what happens as a result.
