Clemson Football: Tigers will do what South Carolina simply couldn’t
Clemson football will do what South Carolina Gamecocks couldn’t
The Clemson football team will accomplish a feat that in-state rival South Carolina simply couldn’t, and Tiger fans will never let them forget about it either.
It wasn’t that long ago that South Carolina was riding high and in the midst of a five-game winning streak against Clemson. Gamecock flags were flown frequently and Garnet and black seemed to be the adopted color of the state.
Oh, how times have changed.
You see, as the South Carolina football program began to unravel, there came one of the most embarrassing losses in school history: a 23-22 loss to The Citadel, an FCS team, in a year that the Gamecocks finished with just a 3-8 overall record.
Dabo Swinney made sure to make slight mention of that earlier this week in his press conference with the media.
Don’t worry Gamecocks, Clemson football will take care of its lone in-state opponent.
In a year where the SEC was too scared to play the ACC, Clemson football will play its lone in-state opponent this Saturday against The Citadel.
While the Gamecocks were unable to handle the Bulldogs the last time the two teams met, that won’t be the case with the Tigers this time around.
Since Clemson and The Citadel are playing an in-state game, though, that should mean that this game counts as the State Championship also, right?
No matter how you look at it, in a year where we don’t get a rivalry game, there has to be some shade thrown from Clemson football fans when it’s time to play The Citadel. It’s become a running joke between the Tiger fan base for quite a while and now Clemson has a chance to face the program that gave Gamecock fans nightmares for years.
Oh, and do what the Gamecocks couldn’t do: Win on the field.
