Clemson Football: Tigers will have to ‘B.Y.O.E’ against Wake Forest
The Clemson football team will have to BYOE against Wake Forest
There’s no question that the season-opener for Clemson football will be much more different than anything we’ve ever seen before.
The Tigers are slated to kickoff their 2020 campaign against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons with the game televised in prime-time live on ABC. The match-up will be the ESPN College GameDay feature and there will be millions of eyes watching the game through their televisions Saturday night.
But it still won’t feel anything like any other Clemson football game we’ve seen in the past.
Why? There will be absolutely no fans allowed.
Because of the lack of a road crowd, Clemson football players will have to B.Y.O.E.- bring your own energy- Saturday night because it’s going to feel surreal, at least for a few moments.
Clemson football has to bring its own energy because there won’t be anything else to feed off of
I’ve been to games in the past where there more than 10,000 fans in the stadiums (maybe even more) and it still felt ‘dead.‘ How many times in the past have we see a crowd of close to 80,000 be present in a stadium and still feel dead- perhaps against a team like The Citadel.
But, now you’re talking about absolutely no crowd.
You can pump crowd noise or music into the stadium all you want. You can fill the stadium up with cardboard cutouts and attempt to simulate what it was like back in the olden days all you want, but we all know that’s not going to be the same.
There will be no opposing crowd reactions to build energy off of. There will be no home crowd energy to build momentum in Wake Forest’s case. That whole ‘home field advantage’ factor is basically all but removed.
Yes, there will still be noise. And yes, in the end, it will still be football.
But there’s no doubt that Clemson football is going to have to bring its own energy and play to their own standard more so than anything we’ve seen in the past.
