Two Clemson representatives are glaringly missing from the ACC Commissioner’s hiring committee.

On Thursday, the ACC released the names of those that are on the hiring committee tasked with replacing current commissioner John Swofford, however, Clemson President Dr. Jim Clements and athletic director Dan Radakovich are both missing from the panel.

Instead, the lone Clemson representative is Stephanie Ellison-Johnson, who is in her third year as the Senior Associate AD for Sports Administration and the Senior Woman Administrator. There is no doubt that she will do a fine job on this committee, it is just strange to see the two most important people on campus are not part of the committee.

While no one suspects that Dr. Clements has any interest in the job, Dan Radakovich is another story.

Why would he not be interested in the job?

Clemson athletics has prospered under his leadership.

Radakovich has been in the ACC as an athletic director since 2006 when he was hired away by Georgia Tech after spending almost six years at LSU as a senior associate athletic director. He has been in charge of the Clemson athletic department since 2012 and has overseen tremendous growth by the Tigers on and off the field since his arrival.

During his time at the Clemson, the athletic department revenue nearly doubled from $69 million to more than $120 million in 2019. He also helped Clemson negotiate a 10-year, $58 million deal with Nike that included all varsity sports.

The ACC hopes to have someone in place by summer 2021.

Hopefully, the new commissioner will actually care about the wellbeing of the conference and not the good ole boys on tobacco road. Hopefully, the new commissioner will understand that while basketball in the conference is great, football is the key to the conference’s financial health and will treat that accordingly.

While it would be awful to lose Dan Radakovich at Clemson, he would be a great fit as the next ACC commissioner. You have to imagine he would relish the opportunity to be the next ACC commissioner.
