Clemson football: 3 SEC commitments the Tigers can steal before signing day
Clemson football has become a household name from coast to coast.
Part of the becoming a football powerhouse in today’s athletic environment is the ability to expand your recruiting boarders and Clemson football has done just that. Sure, the Tigers may not land every top player in the country, but they do not offer every top player in the country.
You have to be special on and off the field in order to earn a Clemson football offer and there are three SEC commitments that have earned those offers that the Tigers should put the full-court press on and attempt to lure them to Tiger town before the early signing period in December.
Sure, this is tough to do in this environment because visits are not permissible due because of COVID-19 but if anyone can work successfully within those restrictions, it’s head coach Dabo Swinney and his elite coaching staff.
Here are three current SEC commitments that should still be on the Tigers radar.
Tommy Brockenmeyer
- #1 offensive tackle in the country
- #5 overall player
- Committed to Alabama
Alabama loses a football commitment a lot more often than they would like to admit to. Over the last two recruiting classes (2019 & 2020) the Crimson Tide and head coach Nick Saban have lost the commitment of 15 players. That is more than Coach Swinney has lost in 11 years at Clemson combined.
With Jackson Carman off to the NFL a year early, the Tigers are going to need a left tackle, and the 6-foot-6 290 pounds Brockenmeyer would be a great replacement for Carman in 2021.
Dylan Fairchild
- #2 offensive guard
- #131 player overall
- Committed to UGA
The University of Georgia is really attractive to offensive lineman, which is understandable given the number of offensive linemen that they have had drafted under Kirby Smart and former offensive line coach Sam Pittman.
While the Dawgs believe that Matt Luke will not miss a beat replacing Pittman, who left to become the Arkansas head coach, Luke is an unknown commodity – though he does have a lot of energy.
Fairchild is a guy who will more than likely redshirt as a freshman, which would fit in nicely at Clemson and their need for 2022. Like Tommy Brockenmeyer, Fairchild is a big kid at 6–foot-5 and 285 pounds. His size and ability fit what Clemson runs offensively versus what UGA is looking for and this should be part of the conversations in the future.
Jason Marshall
- #2 Cornerback
- #29 overall player
- Committed to Florida
The Clemson football secondary group is the most talented it has ever been and that says something given the talent Clemson has had at back there over the years.
However, it is not often that you find a corner as big and as fluid as Marshall is. His game is a lot like Fred Davis II and but he has a couple more inches on him. Brent Venables and Mike Reed are two of the best coaches in the country and both seem to close when they zero in on someone.
Over the last two classes, Florida and Dan Mullen have lost 21 commitments, including the Tigers very Frank Ladson, so it is not that unrealistic to the ACC Tigers grab a Florida commitment.
