The latest report says 2020 Clemson football season expected to be delayed

The 2020 Clemson football season is currently scheduled to kick off Thursday, Sept. 3 against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta.

That game, at least on its originally-scheduled date, could be in jeopardy.

As every Power-5 conference continues to discuss its plan for the upcoming fall in relation to football, we’ve seen numerous responses.

Currently, the Big Ten and Pac-12 have announced that they will only play conference games. The Pac-12 also announced this week that they expect to play 10 conference games beginning Saturday, Sept. 19, two weeks after the original start of the season.

With those announced delays, many Clemson football fans have begun to wonder what alterations may be made to the Tigers’ 2020 schedule.

On the heels of Clemson announcing that it would delay the start of in-person classes until mid-September, The Clemson Insider’s Robert Thorne MacRae reported this week that multiple sources have told TCI they expect the start of the season to be delayed.

MacRae also reported that the expectation is for fall camp to be delayed, as well.

Clemson football fans may have to wait a little longer for the start of the season

While we have no indicators that this will be a sizable delay, it’s still not what you want to hear if you’re a Tiger fan ready for the return of College Football.

Obviously, things can change fairly quickly and the Clemson Athletic Department has maintained that it is moving forward fully with the idea of playing sports this fall, but that still doesn’t mean that we won’t see the season pushed back a few weeks or even a little more than a month as they attempt to develop uniform protocol, work around schedules and see how the NFL functions once players begin going through training camp.

At this point, a delayed season is better than no season at all, and that should be the attitude that Tiger fans take.
