Clemson football: Tigers near the top in another Top 25 poll
Another college football expert expects Clemson football to be really good in 2020.
College football and Phil Steele are synonymous with each other. For a quarter of a century, Phil Steele has been publishing his preseason college football guide, also known as the college football bible, along with his preseason Top 25.
Like many others, he expects Clemson football to among the best in the country.
Clemson football continues to pick up more accolades as the season draws closer. Earlier this week, several Tigers were named to a couple of different national award watch lists and nearly every preseason Top 25 poll has the Tigers near or at the top.
While Steele’s Top 25 is no different, he didn’t have the Tigers at the top. Instead, they will have to settle for number two – behind a team they beat in 2019 – Ohio State.
Phil Steele’s Top 10 looks like this:
- Ohio State
- Clemson
- Alabama
- Oklahoma
- Texas A&M
- LSU
- UGA
- Notre Dame
- Oregon
- Penn State
While there was a lot of love for the SEC (as usual), Steele did have three other ACC teams in his Top 25. He had UNC, Miami, and Virginia Tech and 16, 17, and 18, respectively.
Next week and a half is important for 2020 Clemson football
We will know a lot more over the next 10 days as far as ACC football is concerned. The conference has targeted August 1st as a day to set decide their fall sports for 2020. ACC fans across the country are awaiting word on whether the conference will follow the lead of the Big Ten and Pac-12 or will they break away from the pack and allow programs to play a full schedule in front of partial crowds?
It is interesting to note that Clemson announced Wednesday that school will, in fact, start on time but the student body will start the semester off virtually and won’t be welcome to campus until September 21st. The sports dominoes that fall because of this will be interesting to watch over the next few days.
