The 2020 Clemson football schedule is going to be changed, but could it be for the better?

Look, there’s really no way around the fact that we’re going to see the 2020 Clemson football schedule changed in some way, shape or form.

While Tiger fans hope the changes are minimal and that conditions are safe enough to play a season, there are still doubters who believe we might not see football at all.

That being said, there is promise on the horizon as we head to the latter portion of the month of July.

There have been legitimate reports that the ACC, SEC and Big 12 are discussing options of potentially playing non-conference games with one another as a way to salvage the season and add more match-ups to the calendar.

There has been an idea floating around in the ACC called the ‘8-and-2 proposal’ where teams would play eight conference games and two out-of-conference games, potentially with either SEC or Big 12 opponents.

This proposal would give Clemson football a chance to do something absolutely spectacular

Right now, if we go to this type of season, we’re going to see Clemson play South Carolina.

But what about that other potential non-conference game?

Of course it makes sense- and we’ve talked about extensively– to schedule a geographically-similar opponent like Georgia, Florida or even Tennessee as the other non-conference opponent.

But what if the Tigers chose to go completely off-the-wall? What if we saw Clemson play one SEC opponent and one Big 12 opponent, rather than two SEC teams?

Finally, the dream match-up with the Texas Longhorns could take place.

There’s no history between Clemson and Texas. The two programs have never matched up on the gridiron. That’s why this game would make so much sense, if we’re going to see the Tigers play a Big 12 opponent.

Clemson and Texas- in a one-off year- could finally play against one another and it would absolutely be considered the game of the week, and one of the most anticipated match-ups of the 2020 season.

The history of Texas and the prominence of that program is huge. The rising brand exposure that we’ve seen with the Clemson football program is massive. Talk about a colossal match-up.

Even if Clemson would be favored- likely by double-digits- this would still be a game we’d all look forward to seeing.

The 2020 Clemson football schedule is going to be changed in some way, shape or form, but that doesn’t mean it can’t ultimately be for the better.
