5-star Clemson football DT target Payton Page is nearing a decision

The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings.

The Tigers have 14 commits and an overall star-average of 94.32, but they’ve got their eyes set on a few more talented prospects.

Perhaps the biggest target remaining for Clemson football is at the defensive tackle position. The Tigers have offered just two defensive tackles in the class and it has been a widely-known fact that 5-star DT Payton Page has been their primary target.

Page, a 6-foot-4, 335 pound defensive tackle from Greensboro, NC, announced that he would be making his decision next month.

Tennessee is coming on strong, will battle Clemson football for Page

For the longest time in his recruitment, Page was considered a Clemson lean with North Carolina as the clear-cut No. 2.

As of late, though, things have begun to change slightly.

Page is still considered a Clemson lean, but that No. 2 spot is a little murkier than before. Tennessee has come on strong and the Volunteers are now seemingly firmly in the running for his services.

Now, does that change a ton once we get to signing day? Probably not.

Page is doing his due diligence and trying to make the best decision possible for himself, but the overarching belief is that he’ll choose the Tigers when it’s all said and done. It will be interesting to see how it plays out during the next few weeks and to see if the Tigers can pick up their priority defensive tackle prospect.

Page is reminiscent of Dexter Lawrence in many ways because of his ability to simply overpower offensive linemen and use his unteachable strength and measurables to his advantage in the trenches.
