Clemson Football: Tigers shift attention to DBs for 2021 recruiting cycle
Clemson football shifts its attention to DB for 2021 recruiting cycle
The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class is ranked No. 2 in the nation, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings.
The Tigers most recently picked up a commitment from 4-star WR Troy Stellato and, with his commitment, basically finished off their recruiting for the wide receiver position in the cycle.
Clemson, now with 14 commitments, is expected to take somewhere in the ballpark of 17-21 players overall depending on final scholarship numbers and there’s one position in particular that they’ll be turning their attention heavily to: Defensive Back.
Top DB Targets for Clemson football
The Tigers currently have one DB commitment- 4-star CB Jordan Hancock- in the class and they’ll be looking to take approximately one more CB and 1-2 more safeties before it’s all said and done.
Here’s a look at the top defensive back targets for Clemson football as we progress through the cycle:
- 5-star CB Ga’Quincy McKinstry
- 5-star CB Tony Grimes
- 4-star CB Jason Marshall
- 4-star CB Nyland Green
- 4-star S Corey Collier
- 4-star S Kendal Daniels
- 4-star S Andrew Mukuba
- 4-star S Derrick Davis Jr.
When looking at this list of targets, I would have to see that it seems that the Tigers are out on 5-star CB Tony Grimes unless something changes- and that always can happen.
That means they’ll have Ga’Quincy McKinstry and Nyland Green, specifically, as their top targets at cornerback. There’s potential that they could take both if a safety spot fell through as Green has proven to be a versatile DB, but that would depend on the circumstances.
At safety, Andrew Mukuba, Kendal Daniels and Corey Collier seem to be the top targets. Keep your eye on Mukuba who has been trending towards the Tigers as of late.
Overall, we’re going to see some extra efforts from the Clemson football coaching staff on recruiting defensive backs in the next few months and it will be interesting to see how things play out before it’s all said and done at the position.
