Clemson football WR Justyn Ross to undergo surgery

Several reports have indicated that Clemson football WR Justyn Ross will undergo surgery stemming from an injury suffered in spring practice.

Ross will undergo surgery in early June, which was first reported by Tiger Illustrated’s Larry Williams and later confirmed by Tigernet. At this point, Clemson football officials have only confirmed that Ross will undergo surgery, they haven’t indicated the exact injury or how long of a recovery time.

The Clemson Insider’s Will Vandervort reported that Clemson Football Director of Communications Ross Taylor said that Ross was doing well and that the testing was delayed due to recent health protocols. Vandervort reported that Dabo Swinney may provide additional information down the road, but has nothing to add at this time.

Dabo Swinney confirmed to the media back in March right before spring practice was cancelled that Ross had suffered a stinger.

Get well soon Justyn Ross, from all Clemson football nation

It’s not fair to speculate on an injury and we’re not going to do that here. We wish Justyn Ross nothing but the best as he hits the road to recovery, which all starts with a successful surgical procedure in June.

If the Tigers are without Ross for any amount of time- which no one can know at this point- I would expect to see Joseph Ngata take over at the boundary position and get an opportunity to make a major impact as a sophomore.

As far as the rest of the wide receiver position is concerned, the Tigers return Amari Rodgers as a starter and are expected to start veteran Cornell Powell at the slot. Ross would be expected to take over the ‘boundary’ position.

In addition to Ross, Rodgers, Powell and Ngata, Clemson returns Frank Ladson Jr. and Brannon Spector and they’ll add two talented freshmen- E.J. Williams and Ajou Ajou- to the fold, as well.

In 2019, Justyn Ross had 66 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns.
